Since the factory differential and ring gear are riveted together at the factory, when installing a Wavetrac differential or a new ring and pinion in your 020, 02A, 02J, 02Q or 02M transmission, you must drill out the rivets and replace them with special bolts and nuts. Produced for us by ARP, the world leader in high grade fasteners, our bolt kits are made from certified CHQ 8740 Chrome Moly material (rated well above aircraft quality). Threads are rolled after heat treat ensuring the finest threads that can be torqued more accurately without binding. The splines on our bolts are sized correctly for the crucial press-fit into the differential flange. We use ARP 12-point nuts rated at 180,000 psi or better. Labor to separate and machine ring gear –

This is the labor to separate the ring gear from your OEM MQB open differential, machine it to the correct thickness, and drill the bolt pattern to allow it to be mounted to the Wavetrac differential PN 10-309-193WK.

To start this process you will need to drain your rear end, check OEM backlash, then remove the OEM differential from the housing. From there you’ll need to remove the bearings and box up your OEM differential to send to us. Make sure to both box and pad it well, and ALWAYS insure the shipment for the cost of a replacement should it get lost. From there it will take up to 3-4 weeks for us to perform this service. Once completed we will ship you back your finished OEM ring gear for you to mount to your Wavetrac differential, press bearings back on, and reinstall.

We will not be doing installs into rear ends at this time, so DO NOT send your complete rear end housing to us.
